A Big Lebowski Spin-Off Is Secretly Being Shot By John Turturro Right Now

It may only be August but prepare for it to feel like Christmas, because it’s been alleged that John Turturro is currently shooting a ‘Big Lebowski’ spin-off for his character Jesus Quintana in secret right now.

Birth Movies Death have alleged that ‘Going Places’, which Turturro is directing, is both a remake of the 1974 French classic and the long touted offshoot from the Coen Brothers’ 1998 classic.

Turturro’s effort takes its plot from ‘Les Valseuses’, as it will revolve around two petty criminals that compete to give a woman her first orgasm after she joins their criminal ways, while it also has a top notch cast.

Bobby Cannavale will star as Petey opposite Turturro’s Jesus, while Audrey Tautou plays the object of their affections and Susan Sarandon stars as a criminal that also joins up with the trio after a long spell incarcerated.

Filming has reportedly been underway for two weeks out in New York State, which, considering that ‘Big Lebowski’ is proudly set in Los Angeles, suggests that it will have a much different flavour to its predecessor, and leaves a lot of questions to be answered.

It also means that the likelihood of Jeff Bridges’ The Dude or John Goodman’s Walter Shoback making cameos might be difficult, be we still hold out hope that they’ll be squeezed in somehow.

John Turturro has been proposing a ‘Big Lebowski’ spin-off focused on Jesus Quintana for several years now.

However he’s always been aware that Joel and Ethan Coen probably wouldn’t be heavily involved. He told AV Club back in 2011, “It would have to be something that maybe I’d have to do. Maybe they would help me write it or something,” or even approve his outline.

From the sound of things, they’ve either done just that or they’ve actually helped Turturro to write it. Which isn’t beyond the realms of possibilities considering that in the last five years they’ve helped to write ‘Bridge Of Spies’, ‘Unbroken’, and ‘Gambit’.

Either way, I can only imagine Turturro was given the Coen Brothers’ seal of approval before he was allowed to f*** with the Jesus.
