Time to crack open the Bolly darling as the ‘Absolutely Fabulous’ movie has been given an official release date.

‘Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie’, to give it its full title, will hit UK cinemas on 1 July 2016 where it’ll go head to head with Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson’s new comedy ‘Central Intelligence’.

Jennifer Saunders has written the script for the movie. Her hit BBC sitcom, set in the world of fashion, ran for 5 series and a handful of specials from 1992-2004. The final 3 episodes aired in 2011/2012 as part of the show’s 20th anniversary celebrations.

Here’s the synopsis from the press release: Appropriate for their big screen debut, Edina and Patsy are still oozing glitz and glamour, living the high life they are accustomed to; shopping, drinking and clubbing their way around London’s trendiest hotspots. Blamed for a major incident at an uber fashionable launch party, they become entangled in a media storm and are relentlessly pursued by the paparazzi. Fleeing penniless to the glamorous playground of the super-rich, the French Riviera, they hatch a plan to make their escape permanent and live the high life forevermore!

Fox Searchlight confirmed the film recently wrapped after a 7-week shoot in the UK and the south of France. Joanna Lumley and Jennifer Saunders were also spotted filming scenes in character (see above) at the London Fashion Awards in November.

All the major players of the original show are set to return alongside a host of cameos from the world of acting, music, and fashion. Kate Moss, Emma Bunton, Kim Kardashian, Victoria Beckham, and Harry Styles are amongst the names of stars rumoured to be making guest appearances.

Julia Sawalha, Jane Horrocks, and June Whitfield will also return as Eddie’s long-suffering daughter, PA, and mother.
