Amy Dowden reveals Tom and Giovanna Fletcher's drove eight hours to visit her after cancer diagnosis
Amy Dowden has heaped praise on Tom and Giovanna Fletcher for driving for eight hours to visit her after she was diagnosed with breast cancer.
The 33-year-old, best known as a professional dancer on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’, has overcome the disease since being told she had stage three breast cancer in May 2023, and has now opened up about how McFly frontman Tom, 38, and his 39-year-old wife travelled to comfort her when she was first dealt the devastating news of her illness.
She told TV host Kate Thornton, 51, on her ‘White Wine Question Time’ podcast: "I can remember ringing Tom and telling him, and Tom and G got straight in the car to do an eight hour round trip to come and see me.
"Giovanna had finished a trek then did a three hour drive home. They got in the car, they drove to Wales where my parents live. They spent a couple of hours with me and then they drove back, bless them. All because they wanted to be with me in person."
After undergoing chemotherapy, Amy recently announced that she was given the “all clear” from cancer for five years, but would have to have monthly injections and regular check-ups.
She said on Instagram: “NO EVIDENCE OF DISEASE! Words I dreamed of! My biggest accomplishment yet!
“I won’t be getting the all clear for five years especially with a hormone fed cancer. But it was all worth it. Words I never thought I’d hear at one point.
“So grateful for all the care I received and continue to have. To my husband [Benjamin Jones], family and friends who supported me unconditionally and to you guys! Thank you!”
Amy has also celebrated landing a job on Lorraine Kelly's ITV daytime show, where she is tipped to be interviewing celebrities.
She told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “I’m delighted to join the ‘Lorraine’ family and can’t wait to be part of the brilliant team of presenters on the show.
“It’s been a tough year but this is something I’m so excited about and can’t wait to get started.”
Lorraine, 64, added: “We’re thrilled to have Amy join the 'Lorraine' family. We always love it when Amy is on the show, and know our viewers do too, so we can’t wait to see more of her. She’s had an incredibly tough year and overcome it with such grace, I’m so excited to welcome her to the show.”
