Andrew Garfield responds to We Live in Time's viral horse meme
Andrew Garfield has addressed We Live in Time's elephant in the room, or rather, the ugly horse on the carousel.
Garfield's newest film sees him and Florence Pugh play a couple who are rocked by a cancer diagnosis.
A promotional image for the film showed the two actors in character enjoying a date on a carousel, but fans were distracted by the oddly gaunt appearance of the carousel horse, which looked a little crazed.

The silliness of the horse's face, combined with its placement in the frame of the image, made it look like it was photobombing the otherwise cute image. Unsurprisingly, it became a meme template.
Speaking to Canadian network CTV's Etalk on a red carpet, Garfield was asked about the meme, and jokingly thanked it for bringing the film to people's attention.
"Thank you for bringing up the horse," he said. "I hadn't heard from him since our shoot day but I pray he makes an appearance (at the premiere) 'cause without him, we really are nothing.
"Yeah, no-one would be aware of this film if it wasn't for that f**king horse."

Following the Toronto International Film Festival premiere, the film will be screened on three days of the BFI London Film Festival next month, before getting a general release on New Year's Day.
This film is also the reason why Florence Pugh has been sporting a shaved head, as she recently explained that director John Crowley told her she could wear a wig, but she insisted that she couldn't portray her character well if she didn't shave it.
"I just stopped him mid-sentence and I was like, 'John, no one can play a character like this in a movie like this and not do the thing that is needed to be done,'" she said. "And if you don’t want to do it, I believe that you shouldn’t be doing a story like this."
We Live in Time will be released on January 1, 2025.
