Zoe Kravitz should ignore any advice that she gets about portraying Catwoman.

That’s according to Anne Hathaway, who portrayed the character in 2013’s The Dark Knight Rises. Hathaway was quizzed by Collider about Kravitz playing the part of Selina Kyle in the upcoming new take on the superhero, asking her if she had any advice for her successor.

Initially, Hathaway responded with, “You saw the picture of her coming down those stairs, right? Yeah, she doesn’t need my advice.”

Hathaway didn’t stop there, though, as she explained exactly why Kravitz needs to not listen to people.

“I think the only way to play that role to give your version it. All of us had different directors and all of our interpretations were specific that they were in.”

Hathaway says this is exactly how she approached Robert Zemeckis’ version of The Witches, in which she plays the Grand High Witch, the character that Angelia Huston had previously played in Nicolas Roeg’s 1990 version of Roald Dahl’s book.

Ultimately, the Oscar winning star of Les Miserables believes that audiences and movie lovers shouldn’t “get too bogged down” with comparisons between performances and characters.

When it comes to watching Kravitz as Catwoman, all that Hathaway would say is that she is “so excited to see what she does with it,” before then adding, “I think she was a perfect choice.”

We’ll get to see exactly what Kravitz, Robert Pattinson, Paul Dano, Colin Farrell, John Turturro, Andy Serkis, and Jeffrey Wright do in The Batman when Matthew Reeves’ hugely anticipated blockbuster is finally released on March 4, 2022.
