Anthony Daniels was unhappy with C-3PO’s role in 'Star Wars: The Last Jedi'
Anthony Daniels was disappointed with C-3PO’s role in Star Wars: The Last Jedi because he felt his character was sidelined in Rian Johnson’s film.
“In The Last Jedi I became a table decoration, which I regretted, because Threepio was worth more than that,” Daniels recently told Empire. The character spent the majority of The Last Jedi aboard Vice Admiral Holdo’s Resistance ship while the other characters were on a secret mission, while Rey, Artoo, and Chewbacca were on Ahch-To with Luke Skywalker.
However, Daniels is much happier with his part in Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker, insisting that C-3PO gets to do all “sorts of weird stuff” in the ninth and final installment to the hugely popular franchise.
“It was a delight, a joy! I get to go out on a high,” Daniels continued. “This is my third ending and I think I’ll be saddest about this one. Return Of The Jedi was… well, it had the Ewoks in it, for God’s sake.”

Anthony Daniels has been a mainstay of the Skywalker saga ever since Star Wars: A New Hope was released back in 1977.
Since then he has appeared in its direct sequels, The Empire Strikes Back and Return Of The Jedi, the three prequels, The Phantom Menace, Attack Of The Clones and Revenge Of The Sith, and then the sequel trilogy, which was kick-started by The Force Awakens back in 2015.
That meant that shooting on The Rise Of Skywalker was clearly rather emotional for the actor. In fact, Oscar Isaac, who stars as Poe Cameron in the series, recently told Entertainment Weekly that Daniels gave a touching speech on the final day of production.

“To be there and to hear Anthony Daniels say goodbye to Star Wars, who is the one person who has been in all of them including, I think, most of the cartoons — he is Star Wars.”
“For me, in any of those scenes, when I was working with Anthony, that’s when it would really hit home that he is the one link that would really made me feel like this is part of a great, great legacy. To be the guy that wrapped right before he did and to hear him say goodbye was really special.”
Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker will be released on 19 December.
