When will Cameron Diaz’s new film Back In Action be released?

Cameron Diaz is set to return to movies after a decade-long hiatus in Back in Action, a new spy comedy with a starry ensemble cast that’s due to land on Netflix later this year.

Shooting to fame with movies like The Mask, There’s Something About Mary and Charlie’s Angels, Diaz’s last major movie roles were back in 2014 with films like Sex Tape, Annie and The Other Woman. While she may have been out of the spotlight for a few years, Diaz will soon return in a big way with Back In Action.

When is Back In Action released?

Back in Action will be released on to Netflix at some point in 2024 but a concrete debut date has yet to be revealed.

The film is directed by Seth Gordon, the same filmmaker behind 2011’s Charle Day, Jason Bateman and Jason Sudeikis comedy Horrible Bosses and 2017’s Baywatch movie. Gordon co-wrote the film’s screenplay alongside fellow writer Brendan O’Brien.

Is there a trailer for Back in Action?

While a full trailer for Back in Action is yet to surface we have seen glimpses of Gordon’s movie in a sizzle reel released by Netflix teasing their upcoming slate of projects.

Nestled in between scenes from the streamer’s new movies and shows, clips from Back In Action can be found at the 2.08-minute mark, with a very brief clip featured at the start of the trailer too.

While it’s not much to go on, scenes of Diaz’s spy matriarch Emily dispatching some baddies while her bemused kids look on provides a nice flavour of the action-comedy mix that we can likely expect from her new movie.

Who’s starring in Back In Action?

Diaz will star alongside Jamie Foxx. Together, they'll play Emily and Matt, a happily married couple who have long put their previous spy life behind them in order to focus on family stuff.

Together, they’ll be joined by All Of Us Strangers star Andrew Scott, Fatal Attraction’s Glenn Close, Friday Night Lights actor Kyle Chandler and Stath Lets Flats and Barbie star Jamie Demetriou. Skyscraper’s McKenna Roberts and Rylan Jackson of Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves will also star.

Great cast, right? Unfortunately, details on who all of these fine actors are playing and how exactly they fit into Diaz and Foxx’s overall story are still a mystery - for now.

What is the plot of Back in Action?

As we briefly mentioned above, Diaz and Foxx star as a happily married couple with kids trying their best to enjoy a tame family life. However, it’s not long before their past catches up to them - one that saw them both work as CIA spies.

When ghosts from their old work life come back to haunt them and their cover is blown, the pair are forced to come out of retirement for one more mission - much to the surprise of their none-the-wiser kids.
