Ben Affleck’s involvement with the new incarnation of Batman will be a big talking point throughout 2017, and the actor’s vowed to make something great.

2016’s DC released haven’t exactly set the world alight (well, not metaphorically; they did literally bring movie cities crumbling down) with various good and bad reviews when ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’ came out. Summertime saw ‘Suicide Squad’ released to yet more mixed reaction, and despite it falling short of ‘Dawn of Justice’s’ $873 million haul by almost $130 million, both films made enough money to satisfy Warner Bros. in moving forward with the DCEU.

Affleck’s venture into the comicbook world as Batman was hugely anticipated 12 month ago and now, with the Oscar-winning director writing, helming, and acting in the new solo outing, he’s not only accepted the magnitude of the task at hand but that he is determined to make a top-quality Batman story.

Speaking to EW (via Comic Book), Affleck shared his passion for the project.

“I’m not going to write and direct anything that I don’t think is good enough to be made. I’m definitely going to make sure I have something that is special—there’s not enough money in the world to make a mediocre version of Batman worth it.”

It’s somewhat reassuring the ‘Gone Baby Gone’ and ‘Argo’ director knows how important it is to produce a strong film, especially after Chris Nolan did such a solid job with his ‘The Dark Knight’ trilogy.

And it’s not just pressure from DC, Warner, and the ever-demanding fans that is putting the ‘Gone Girl’ actor on the spot – his kids are also holding out for something great. They’re huge fans of their dad being a superhero and obviously he wants to make them proud.

“They love it,” Affleck said. “My son especially. He’s going to be five, and he’s in full superhero geek mode. He still sort of thinks I might really be Batman. I know he’ll realise eventually I have feet of clay, but I’m enjoying it while it lasts.”

‘The Batman’, as it’s currently known as, has cast JK Simmons as Commissioner Gordon, Jeremy Irons returning as butler Alfred, and Joe Manganiella as nemesis Death Stroke. The film’s scheduled for a 2018 release but hasn’t got a UK release date yet.
