‘The Batman’ may be heading back to the drawing board.

After the high-profile exit of Ben Affleck as director of ‘The Batman’ it looks as though Warner Bros. is forced to rethink its strategy… and may be starting from scratch.

“I’m hearing anything from ‘major rewrites’ to ‘a completely new script’,” said Forbes. “Including starting from scratch on the story if that’s what it takes — is unclear, not just to us but probably to those involved as well, since the new filmmaker might look at the story and script and decide there’s plenty to salvage that appeals to them.”

But is it as bad as it seems?

“Once the director is in place, more will become clear,” they added. “But for now Warner Bros. is suffering far more negative perceptions than they need to, simply because of the attempt to slow and control the spread of information.”

It certainly sounds as though Warner Bros. is willing to work with the existing script if they find a new director who’s on board with it… but I get the feeling it’s more likely that they’ll have to end up rewriting to some degree.

How extensive that rewrite is, remains to be seen.

But what was the old script for ‘The Batman’ really like? Actually, it sounds pretty intriguing.

“The story for The Batman originally included the assassin Deathstroke as a main villain, with Joe Manganiello cast in the role, as well as a few other likely villainous appearances by characters including the Joker, according to sources familiar with the project.”

Of course, there were rumours back last year that the entire movie would take place in Arkham Asylum, with Jared Leto’s version of The Joker featuring heavily. But whether or not there’s any weight to those rumours remains to be seen.

It certainly makes a lot of sense – after all, Jared Leto already made his Joker debut in ‘Suicide Squad’ and it makes sense to include him in Ben Affleck’s first solo adventure as The Dark Knight. And with Joe Manganiello already cast as Deathstroke, that’s a given.

But will this version of ‘The Batman’ ever see the light of day?

It sounds like an interesting take. But for now, we have to wait and see.
