Ben Affleck’s Batman movie is 18 months away

‘Batman’ fans have quite a wait ahead…

Warner Bros. CEO Jeff Bewkes has revealed that Ben Affleck’s upcoming ‘Batman’ solo movie won’t be heading to cinemas for at least 18 months.

“Ben announced a Batman movie [that] he’s going to direct, star, write for,” he explained at the 25th Annual Goldman Sachs Communacopia Conference (via Comicbook.com). “I think it’s a year and a half out. So, the strategy worked.”

But while it may sound like a long time away, it’s actually a lot sooner than we thought.

The upcoming film slate announced by Warner Bros. led many DC fans to believe that the upcoming ‘Batman’ movie would occupy its October 2018 slot. But if the movie is just 18 months away, it looks as though Affleck’s take on the Dark Knight could appear even sooner.

Of course, this isn’t a firm release date…

Although Bewkes is fairly confident in his 18-month estimate, it’s no official announcement. Instead, it’s likely a vague look forward to when the film will roughly be released. Of course, a year-and-a-half from now would sit just about the right time to line up with the release of ‘Batman V Superman’ - just two years down the road.

But a release date 18 months from now would clash with ‘The Flash’.

Obviously, Warner Bros. isn’t going to risk blowing its own movie out of the water by releasing two DC superhero films in the same month.

So what does that mean?

Either ‘The Flash’ release date will be moved to accommodate the ‘Batman’ solo movie, or Jeff Bewkes’ rough estimate of 18 months is a little off. Either way, we’ve got confirmation that the ‘Batman’ solo film is coming in 2018.

And that’s really not far away at all.
