Ben Miller picks Miranda Hart to replace Ralf Little on Death In Paradise
Ben Miller wants to see Toby Jones or Miranda Hart join 'Death In Paradise'.
The BBC has confirmed Ralf Little has left the Caribbean drama after more than four years as Detective Neville Parker, and fans will now be wondering who will replace him for season 14, with Miller, Ardal O'Hanlon and Kris Marshall among his predecessors.
Pondering the series' next big star, Miller - who played DI Richard Poole - told RadioTimes.com: "Oh my God, there are so many people who'd be brilliant. Toby Jones, that's who I'd like to see.
He was also asked if a female lead detective could work, and replied: "Yeah, that could definitely work.
"I could see that, 100 percent. I think that'd be good too. If we’re playing fantasy detectives, Miranda Hart."
Ralf previously opened up about the "possibility" of a female lead for the show, insisting that 'Death In Paradise' is "extremely positive and brave in its choices".
He teased: "'Never say never' implies that it’s unlikely. The honest answer is: I don't know. It's certainly a possibility. Whatever they decide, it'll be a good decision."
Meanwhile, this week Ralf said goodbye to the fans while thanking "everyone who watched and supported the show" since he's arrival "four and a half years ago".
He said in a video on Instagram: "Coming into a series beloved by millions was a huge responsibility and I had no idea whether viewers would take to my interpretation of Neville's character, and, indeed, to me.
"It was quite a relief that the response has been overwhelming, and it's been an absolute privilege and a pleasure to bring Neville Parker to all of you and to share his quite profound journey with you."
He added: "I can’t wait to see what happens next. It’s been the ride of a lifetime."
