Burberry mistakes Riz Ahmed for Dev Patel in embarrassing Bafta tweet blunder
Fashion house Burberry found itself in some hot water last night, after a Twitter blunder saw it mistaking Riz Ahmed for Dev Patel.
In an attempt to draw attention to its presence on the red carpet, it sent out a tweet with the text ‘Celebrating the #EEBAFTAs in London this evening, Best Actor in a Supporting Role winner #DevPatel wears a @Burberry custom made navy tuxedo’.
The minor issue was that it was a picture of ‘Rogue One’ star Ahmed, and not ‘Lion’ star Patel.
The tweet was soon deleted, and re-posted with the right picture, but not before it has been picked up on.

“You should be ashamed of yourself, that’s not Dev,” replied one angry fan.
Another suggested: “Someone needs to be sacked at Burberry.”
Yet another said: “1. That isn’t Dev 2. That suit isn’t black.”

They later shared tweets of Patel and Ahmed with the right captions…

Patel won the gong for his role in ‘Lion’, and gave an emotional speech as he picked up his first ever BAFTA statue.
Initially at a loss for words, he paid tribute to his family saying: “This is a film about family, about a love that transcends borders, race… colour, anything, and you guys are my driving force.”
He also thanked the team around him ‘who had the insane task of trying to get this Indian dude, this noodle with wonky teeth and a lazy eye and floppy hair, work in this really hard industry’.
