Cate Blanchett To Join Sandra Bullock In Ocean’s Eleven Spin-Off

Looks like the upcoming all-female ‘Ocean’s Eleven’ spin-off is setting its sights high when it comes to casting.

The film from ‘The Hunger Games’ director Gary Ross is already set to star Sandra Bullock as the sister of George Clooney’s master thief Danny Ocean - and now Bullock looks set to be joined by another Oscar-winning actress.

The Playlist report that Cate Blanchett is in talks to join the as-yet untitled movie, which has been unofficially dubbed ‘Ocean’s Ocho’ (not the final title), reflecting that the film will centre on a team of 8, rather than 11 as in the earlier movies.

Blanchett is reportedly in negotiations for what would be the equivalent of the Brad Pitt role, i.e. the second in command.

This, it would seem, is most likely the same role that Jennifer Lawrence was recently reported to be in line for - but, according to The Playlist, Lawrence now looks unlikely to appear in the film due to a scheduling clash.

The Playlist also report that George Clooney is not expected to cameo as Danny Ocean, although this had been considered at one point.

There’s no word yet on who the other six team members are likely to be, but on this evidence they’ll be after more big names; an appropriate stance, given the earlier movies starred Clooney, Pitt, Matt Damon and Julia Roberts, amongst others.

This makes Blanchett’s future look unusually popcorny for the prestigious actress, as she is also set to appear as the first super-villainess of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in ‘Thor: Ragnarok,’ opening November 2017.

No release date has been announced for the ‘Ocean’s Eleven’ offshoot, but it is expected to go into production this autumn, with the original trilogy director Steven Soderbergh on board as producer.
