Catherine Zeta-Jones Wants Darling Buds Of May Remake

Catherine Zeta-Jones is back on the big screen in the ‘Dad’s Army’ movie (in cinemas this Friday) but she says she’d love to revisit her roots in a remake of ‘The Darling Buds of May’… this time in a different role.

“I’d have to play Ma Larkin now,” the 46-year-old told Yahoo Movies.

“I would love to see [’Darling Buds of May’] redone,” she added, “I’d love to see it. We were stupid really when we did the ‘Darling Buds of May’ because we had these eight books and we did the whole books - all of them - in one season.”

“We didn’t know it was going to be successful, we didn’t know we could push them out. But yeah, absolutely, redo it. Any good stuff should be redone.”

Zeta-Jones shot to fame playing eldest daughter Mariette Larkin for 3 series of the hit ITV drama from 1991-1993 alongside David Jason and Pam Ferris before she broke into Hollywood.

The series, based on HE Bates’ series of novels about rural life in the 1950s, proved to be a huge hit for ITV and Zeta-Jones, who became a household name off the back of it.
