Chris Evans In Line For Jekyll Movie

.

Chris Evans may be set to play one of the classic horror characters - or at least, a modernised variation thereon.

Deadline report that Lionsgate have the ‘Captain America’ star in mind for a big screen adaptation of 'Jekyll,’ the 2007 BBC mini-series inspired by Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic novel 'The Strange Tale of Doctor Jekyll and Mister Hyde.’

The 2007 TV drama, written by future 'Doctor Who’ and 'Sherlock’ showrunner Steven Moffatt, cast James Nesbitt as a modern-day descendant of the original Jekyll, who finds that he too has a malevolent Hyde alter-ego which begins to intrude on his life.

This would certainly make a change for Evans, who has for more than five years been known primarily as the biggest goody-two shoes of superhero movies. However, the actor has taken his share of darker roles in the past, notably in 'Sunshine’ and 'Snowpiercer.’

Perhaps more notably, a 'Jekyll’ movie would potentially be a rival project to Universal’s planned monster movie universe. Russell Crowe has been cast as Dr Henry Jekyll in the upcoming reboot of 'The Mummy,’ and it is anticipated this will lead to further appearances in the role.

No director has been announced for 'Jekyll,’ but Moffatt’s teleplay has been adapted into a feature-length script by Anthony Bagarozzi and Charles Mondry, whilst Ellen DeGeneres and Jeff Kleeman produce.
