Daisy Ridley: We’ll learn about Rey’s parentage in Star Wars 8
After ‘Star Wars: The Force Awaken’ movie fans have been wildly speculating about the parentage of the saga’s new leading lady Rey, who is played by Daisy Ridley.
Many have suggested that Rey could be the daughter of ‘Rogue One’s’ Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones) while there are some that have predicted that she might be related to Obi Wan Kenobi (Alec Guinness & Ewan McGregor), too.
While speaking to Vulture Ridley confirmed that we will finally get an answer to this quandary in ‘Star Wars 8′. After being asked whether she thought Rey and Obi-Wan Kenobi might be from the same family, Ridley remarked, “We will see in a year. Just sit tight on that question.”
Since ‘Star Wars: Episode 8′ is being released on December 15, 2017, that pretty much confirms that we’ll get an answer during the blockbuster, which is being written and directed by Rian Johnson. While we actually might get some sort an answer in just a few weeks times as ‘Rogue One’ will hit on December 16.
Ridley did dismiss one theory, though. Because when she was asked whether Jyn might actually be Rey’s mother she responded with, “I mean, I think historically it wouldn’t work, because she is … Darth Vader is there … so she would ultimately be my great-grandma; no, she would be my grandma.”
But Ridley made sure to admit that there’s always a chance that it could still work out that way, though, as she added, “I mean it could happen, especially in a galaxy far, far away.”
