The summer yields an impressive slate of upcoming projects for Disney+ in the UK, headlined by Marvel's first foray into the movie world since 2019. Black Widow is one of two major blockbusters debuting in both cinemas and via the streaming platform this month, with Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt's Jungle Cruise also landing after a COVID-induced delay.
Elsewhere, there's a spin-off series for a beloved Pixar movie, a behind the scenes look at some of the most exciting Disney park attractions and a TV series follow-up to the 1989 Tom Hanks comedy Turner and Hooch.

Original movies coming to Disney+ UK in July 2021
Black Widow (available via Premier Access and in cinemas from 9 July) + Marvel Studio Legends: Black Widow (7 July)
It feels like forever since Spider-Man: Far From Home was released in July 2019, picking up the pieces after the colossal battle of Avengers: Endgame. A year thrown into disarray by the COVID-19 pandemic meant we were left without an MCU fix for quite some time, but now Black Widow is finally arriving on cinema screens and via streaming courtesy of Disney+. Scarlett Johansson reprises the role she has played since Iron Man 2, with Cate Shortland in the director's chair and Florence Pugh leading the supporting cast.
As with all of the recent MCU TV shows, the streamer is also unveiling a new edition of Marvel Studio Legends, recapping the story of Natasha so far.
Playing With Sharks (23 July)
Valerie Taylor is one of the most renowned divers and shark experts on the planet, having carried out conservation efforts over the years with her late husband Ron. Via interviews, underwater filming and archive footage, this documentary traces her life and career, including her work filming shark-based sequences for Steven Spielberg's classic 1975 blockbuster Jaws.
Stuntman (23 July)
Dwayne Johnson is the executive producer of this documentary, which traces the life of Hollywood daredevil Eddie Braun. After three decades working in the movie business, Braun decides to take on the enormous and death-defying challenge of attempting to execute his idol Evel Knievel’s infamous unsuccessful Snake River Canyon rocket jump.
Jungle Cruise (available via Premier Access and in cinemas from 30 July)
Delayed from last year as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, this adventure movie is now arriving simultaneously in cinemas and via Premier Access on Disney+. Dwayne Johnson leads the cast as a riverboat captain who agrees to take Emily Blunt's scientist and her brother on an expedition to find the mythical Tree of Life.
Jaume Collet-Serra, veteran of many Liam Neeson action outings, is the director for this story, based on a theme park ride.
Summer of Soul (...Or, When the Revolution Could Not Be Televised) (available in cinemas from 16 July and on Star from 30 July)
Earlier this year, Disney announced the Onyx Collective brand, designed to foreground work by people of colour and other under-represented groups. Summer of Soul is the first project made under that brand and takes the form of a documentary looking back at the 1969 Harlem Cultural Festival, which saw thousands of people come together in order to celebrate Black culture.

Monsters At Work (weekly from 7 July)
Set immediately after the events of Pete Docter's 2001 animated movie Monsters Inc, this series follows the company's adjustment from harvesting energy via screams to the use of laughter. Race to the Centre of the Earth (all episodes from 14 July)
This adventure-based reality show follows four teams of intrepid competitors as they race each other to a buoy in the middle of the ocean, which designates the centre of the Earth. The team that wins gets to split a huge cash prize of $1m (£719,000).
War of the Worlds S2 (Star, weekly from 16 July)
After her acclaimed performance in Normal People, Daisy Edgar-Jones leads this French-English spin on the classic H.G. Wells novel. The series follows groups of survivors joining forces in order to keep the human race alive following an extra-terrestrial attack.
Marvel Studios Assembled — The Making of Loki (21 July)
With the Tom Hiddleston-starring series in full swing on Disney+, this documentary delves into the creative process behind the character's return to the screen. Similar shows have been made for other Disney+ programmes like The Mandalorian and WandaVision, so this is the latest fascinating peek behind the curtain.
Behind the Attraction (all episodes from 21 July)
After the success of Disney+ launch series The Imagineering Story, this is the latest documentary show to reveal the secrets of Disney's theme parks all over the world. Tracing the half-century of innovation from classic rides such as The Haunted Mansion through to modern attractions like Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge, this will be a treasure trove for Disney devotees.
Meet Spidey and His Amazing Friends (all episodes from 21 July)
After Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse broke down comic book barriers on the big screen, it's unsurprising to see other shows and movies exploring the limitless possibilities of putting multiple Spider-people together. In this collection of 10 shorts aimed at the preschool age group, Peter Parker, Gwen Stacy and Miles Morales team up to save the day.
Turner & Hooch (weekly from 21 July)
Disney has used the Disney+ platform to create spin-offs and sequels for many of its nostalgic franchises. The latest to step up is the 1989 comedy Turner and Hooch, which starred Tom Hanks and a French Mastiff in the title roles. Josh Peck plays a US Marshall who is the son of Hanks's character in this series, in which he inherits a dog he doesn't want.
Chip ‘N’ Dale: Park Life (weekly from 21 July)
Disney's mischievous animated chipmunks have been on screens for almost 80 years and so it's no surprise that they've now made it to the company's streaming platform. In this series, which also features various other characters from the Disney family, they try to live their best life in a park at the heart of a major city — inevitably getting into scrapes along the way.
Turning the Tables with Robin Roberts E1-4 (28 July)
