The stars of Disney movies past and present — as well as A-listers from the world of music — joined forces on Thursday for television spectacular The Disney Family Singalong.

Designed to raise spirits during the current global health emergency, the show featured musical performances recorded remotely in the homes of stars all over the world.

Ariana Grande harmonised with herself for a rendition of I Won’t Say I’m in Love from Hercules, while Josh Gad and Luke Evans reprised their Beauty and the Beast roles — alongside legendary composer Alan Menken — to sing Gaston.

One of the biggest moments of the show was Zac Efron rejoining the cast of High School Musical for the first time in over a decade to introduce a performance of We’re All In This Together from the original 2006 film.

Efron provided a short intro — referring to the cast as some of his “oldest friends” — before cast members including Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale and Corbin Bleu performed the track.

They were joined by actors from the new Disney+ High School Musical series as well as other stars like Raven-Symoné and Dove Cameron.

High School Musical director Kenny Ortega said the cast were more than willing to get involved in the project.

“We couldn’t reach Zac until late but when we did, he immediately jumped in, of course,” Ortega told Deadline.

He added: “Everyone we reached out to was quick — and you’ll see it in their spirit and the way they come together from their homes. They recognise this is an opportunity to strengthen spirits for those joining us for the broadcast.”

Hosted by red carpet personality Ryan Seacrest, the special show also featured contributions from Christina Aguilera, Beyoncé, Michael Bublé and Demi Lovato.

Many of the performances were dedicated to the frontline workers helping to keep people safe and healthy during the pandemic.

Lovato and Bublé closed the show with an emotional rendition of A Dream Is a Wish Your Heart Makes from Cinderella, interwoven with messages thanking first responders.
