It looks as though ‘Dredd 2’ isn’t dead yet.

During an interview with Collider, Adi Shankar – who produced the first movie – gave a brief update on whether or not we’ll be getting a sequel. And while it’s not happening just yet, it’s encouraging to see he thinks it will happen. Eventually.

“If anyone is still wondering, there’s no update on a Dredd sequel,” he said. “But I’m gonna make it happen at some point.”

‘Dredd’ was released in 2012 and brilliantly, saw Karl urban suit up as Mega-City One’s most famous law enforcer, Judge Dredd. Following the earlier Sylvester Stallone movie, the gritty re-imagining brought to the screen by ‘Dredd’ was a welcome change.

And it’s earned no shortage of fans online.

Since the film’s release, we’ve seen an ongoing campaign for a sequel to be made, with over 100,000 likes on the Bring Back DREDD Facebook page. Obviously, despite a real, tangible update, this is still good news for the fans.

But what form will a sequel take?

It looks as though it might not be a live action movie…

“It may not be live-action, but it’s going to happen at some point,” he added. “There will be more Judge Dredd at some point.”

Of course, we’ve already seen a sequel of sorts with the 2000AD comic book tie-in, ‘Dredd: Underbelly’ which tells the story of Mega-City one’s power vacuum after the death of Ma-Ma. But will this story make it to the screen in some way? Perhaps even an animated sequel?

For now, we have to wait and see.
