Ed Skrein Confirms Deadpool Role

It looks as though Ed Skrein’s ‘Deadpool’ role is rather more villainous than we thought… as the actor reveals he’ll be playing the mercenary, Ajax.

Appearing on Twitter, the 32-year-old actor unveiled a behind-the-scenes picture of his chair on set… emblazoned with the character name, ‘Ajax’.

Of course, Ajax is a character who first appeared in Deadpool #14 way back in 1998. Known only as ‘Francis’, he was an enforcer at Dr. Killebrew’s lab… and after endless taunting from Wade Wilson – aka Deadpool – he was eventually given permission to finish him off.

And this is how Deadpool’s healing factor first manifested itself.

After removing Wilson’s heart, Francis thought he’d put an end to Deadpool. But the Merc with a Mouth was able to regrow a new one, driving him insane in the process. And after this rather gruelling ordeal, Deadpool eventually tracked down and killed Francis… or so he thought.

Disappearing and taking the name ‘Ajax’, he hunted down and killed numerous former-members of the Weapon X project – the government scheme which gave Deadpool his powers.

And I can’t help thinking that this is likely to be how Ajax fits into the movie.

Of course, an earlier leaked version of the script revealed Ajax’s involvement… and it sounds as though ‘Deadpool’ may indeed be based upon that early draft. But it’s likely to have gone through a number of edits and changes – so if you have read that script, it may not be entirely the same.

Either way, it looks as though ‘Deadpool’ will include Ajax. And Ed Skrein seems like the perfect actor to bring him to the big screen.

Will the characters be linked via the Weapon X programme? For now, we’ll have to wait and see. But ‘Deadpool’ is shaping up to be a very interesting comic book movie.

‘Deadpool’ heads to cinemas on 12 February 2016.
