‘Alita: Battle Angel’ just added ‘Deadpool’ star, Ed Skrein.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the 33-year-old ‘Deadpool’ villain has landed a role in the upcoming adaptation of the popular Japanese manga series, ‘Alita: Battle Angel’.
“Deadpool bad guy Ed Skrein will suit up for Alita: Battle Angel, James Cameron and Robert Rodriguez’s ambitious adaptation of the popular manga graphic novels,” they said. “Skrein will once again play a heavy, closing a deal to join the cast that already includes Maze Runner actress Rosa Salazar, Christoph Waltz and Jackie Earl Haley.”
‘Alita: Battle Angel’ is set in the 26th century, and tells the story of a female cyborg (played by Rosa Salazar) who is found in a junkyard by a scientist. She has no memory of her former life, but with apparently deadly martial-arts training, she becomes a bounty hunter, tracking down criminals across the former United States.
Ed Skrein is perhaps best known for the villainous role of Ajax in ‘Deadpool’ but has also starred as Daario Naharis in Season 3 of ‘Game of Thrones’ as well as taking the lead role in ‘The Transporter: Refueled’.
But who will he be playing in ‘Alita: Battle Angel’?
“Skrein will play a character named Zapan, a villainous cyborg who is in possession of a weapon called the Damascus blade.”
The film is reportedly heading into production some time in October.
‘Alita: Battle Angel’ stars Rosa Salazar, Christoph Waltz and Jackie Earl Haley.
Robert Rodriguez will direct, based on a screenplay by James Cameron and Laeta Kalogridis. Cameron will also produce, alongside Jon Landau.
‘Alita: Battle Angel’ heads to cinemas on 20 July 2018.
