Ellen DeGeneres: We’re Long Overdue Same-Sex Couples In Disney Films
‘Finding Dory’ star Elle DeGeneres thinks Hollywood needs to do more to represent diversity on screen.
The actress turned talk show host told Yahoo Movies, “I want to see films that have every single person that is on the planet represented [on screen].”
“We’re overdue for every film to represent every single person on this planet.”

Ellen’s comments come off the back of a ‘Finding Dory’ trailer that appeared to feature a lesbian couple. However, in the finished film (out today) it’s clear that the two women are not actually together.
“When I heard [that speculation], I thought that’s cool,” Ellen says, “But I had seen the movie and I hadn’t seen what they were talking about. And then I realised it was just a woman with short hair and they just jumped to a conclusion that any woman with short hair is a lesbian!”
Ellen, of course, has been married to ‘Arrested Development’ star Portia De Rossi since 2008 after coming out as a lesbian in 1997.
“I was really disappointed in myself because I know lesbians, and I spot them pretty easily. I was like ‘Damn, I didn’t see the lesbian! What’s wrong with me?” But it was just a woman with a bad short haircut, so that’s all it was.”
It definitely feels like Hollywood is taking notice the LGBT community’s desire for more representation on screen, after Sulu was revealed to be in a same-sex relationship in ‘Star Trek Beyond’, but it’s clear there’s still a long way to go.
