Embarrassing roles the Avengers: Infinity War cast want you to forget
- 1/19
Scarlett Johansson was in The Spirit (2008)
Before The Avengers, Scarlett Johansson starred in another comic-book movie, Frank Miller’s The Spirit. Shot in the same style as Robert Rodriguez’s Sin City, but with none of that film’s sense of cool, The Spirit was embarrassing for everyone involved.
- 2/19
Chadwick Boseman was in Gods Of Egypt (2016)
Dignified, cool, charismatic – Chadwick Boseman’s performance as Black Panther is all of this and more. It’s the direct opposite to his turn in Gods Of Egypt – but, despite the character being completely cringeworthy, he’s still the best thing in the movie.
- 3/19
Elizabeth Olsen was in I Saw The Light (2015)
Playing Hank Williams’ wife in a fairly thankless role, Elizabeth Olsen must have assumed this musical biopic would challenge for Oscars (the film’s pure Oscar-bait), but only ended up being challenged by Williams’ grandson – who felt Tom couldn’t sing.
If only Scarlet Witch could undo this film with her magic powers, just like she does in the comics. Yahoo News is better in the app

Robert Downey Jr was in The Shaggy Dog (2006)
The MVP of every single Marvel film, Downey Jr was considered a risk when he was cast in the first Iron Man movie. Possibly because the MCU executives had seen Disney’s The Shaggy Dog, a comedy in which Tim Allen turns into a dog. Civil War, it isn’t.
- 5/19
Mark Ruffalo was in Mirror, Mirror 2: Raven Dance (1994)
We can’t blame Mark Ruffalo for wanting to do Mirror, Mirror 2 (about an evil mirror that terrorises a religious community) – it was his first ever movie role and, hey, we can’t stay mad at any movie that indirectly led to us getting the best-ever Bruce Banner / Hulk.
- 6/19
Sebastian Stan was in The Covenant (2006)
Watching The Covenant frequently feels like watching a bad X-Men movie – it’s about five families with supernatural powers competing for dominance, and contains no evidence whatsoever that Stan would eventually join one of the most successful franchises of all time.

Chris Hemsworth was in Home & Away (2004 – 2007)
Like so many Australian actors (Margot Robbie is another one) Chris Hemsworth got his start in a soap opera. If Avengers 4 doesn’t end with the team uniting for a roaring chorus of the Home & Away theme tune, we’ll be disappointed.
- 8/19
Chris Evans was in London (2005)
The amateurish story of a drug addict trying to get back with his estranged girlfriend (by locking himself in a bathroom to do some more drugs), Chris Evans went serious for London.
His douchebag character is so far removed from Captain America, Steve Rogers would probably chuck his shield at him if he ever met him. Shame his performance is wasted on a script that sounds like it was written by moronic students. - 9/19
Chris Pratt was in The X Team (2003)
No, not the X-Men, the X Team, also known as The Extreme Team, about a secret Black Ops squad made up of Gen X extreme sport athletes, was one of Chris Pratt’s first roles. Radical, dude!
Thank goodness Star Lord rescued Pratt and transformed him into Hollywood’s biggest current action star. Yahoo News is better in the app

Zoe Saldana was in Crossroads (2002)
Saldana actually doesn’t want you to forget Crossroads, she’s still proud of the film in which she stars alongside Britney Spears. We, on the other hand, would do anything to wipe it from our minds. Luckily, we’ve got the Guardians movies to stop us from ever having to think about it.
- 11/19
Benedict Cumberbatch was in Starter For 10 (2016)
Benedict Cumberbatch was born to play Doctor Stephen Strange. We much prefer this version of his ‘super-intelligent douchebag’ skillset to the borderline bully he plays in Starter For 10.
It’s the story of a working-class student navigating his first year at Bristol University and is no-one’s favourite film. - 12/19
Josh Brolin was in Into The Blue (2005)
Brolin went into the purple for his brilliant turn as the terrifying Thanos, but we bet he wishes he had a real Time Stone, to undo the dreadful underwater drama Into The Blue.

Karen Gillan was in New Town Killers (2008)
This rubbish action thriller is about a bunch of bankers who get their kicks from hunting humans. Thankfully, Gillan’s only in it for a scene, and her character doesn’t even have a name. We wish we could send Nebula in to spar with everyone involved.
- 14/19
Dave Bautista was in LA Slasher (2016)
Even though it was only out a couple of years ago, we’re sure Bautista is hoping you’ve already forgotten this social media satire, which is so bad it has 0% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Luckily for him, he’s one of the best things about Infinity War, so everyone can just watch that over and over instead. - 15/19
Tom Hiddleston was in Unrelated (2007)
Hiddleston is so brilliantly charismatic in the MCU that he’s amassed a whole army of fans that are obsessed with everything he does. But even they can’t have enjoyed Unrelated, the dull romantic drama about a woman who goes on holiday to distract herself from an unhappy relationship.

Tom Holland was in In The Heart Of The Sea (2015)
As boring as Infinity War is thrilling, whale-hunt drama In The Heart Of The Sea is as murky as dishwater. Still, it did lead to Holland being cast as Spider-Man (he co-starred with Chris Hemsworth in the film), so we can’t hate it too much.
- 17/19
Vin Diesel was in The Pacifier (2005)
After watching The Pacifier, a sub-Schwarzenegger movie about a tough man who’s forced to babysit, we’re starting to wonder if Vin Diesel took the role of Groot as a chance to not have to show in face in public because he’s still so ashamed of it.
- 18/19
Bradley Cooper was in He’s Not That Into You (2009)
Rocket Raccoon appears with Black Widow in this boring tale of Baltimore-based friends and lovers, as they try to navigate their way through the difficulties of modern relationships and we’re falling asleep as we type this.

Samuel L Jackson was in The Man (2009)
With just 13% on Rotten Tomatoes, The Man is one of Samuel L Jackson’s most critically reviled movies. It was also a box office flop, which is a double whammy for the most profitable star in the MCU. The bad buddy-cop movie was released one year after Nick Fury appeared in Iron Man for the first time. We know which Man we prefer.

Avengers: Infinity War is the pinnacle of blockbuster entertainment, a film any actor would be proud to have on their CV.
Which is good, as the Infinity War cast have got plenty to be embarrassed about.
We’ve picked the worst, weirdest or most dull roles from the careers of Earth’s mightiest heroes.
