Evangeline Lilly confirms Avengers appearance as The Wasp

‘Ant-Man’ star Evangeline Lilly has confirmed she will appear in the second of Marvel’s upcoming 'Avengers’ sequels.

As Hope Van Dyne, aka the Wasp, she will appear in the fourth 'Avengers’ movie: the currently untitled follow-up to 2018’s 'Avengers: Infinity War’.

Lilly didn’t officially become the Wasp during the 2015 action-comedy, only inheriting her mother’s size-shrinking suit during a credits scene.

She will however, appear as the character in 2018 sequel 'Ant Man and the Wasp’ ahead of her Avengers debut.

Speaking to Blastr, Lilly first talked about that sequel, revealing that she hasn’t read a script yet because an initial script hasn’t yet been approved. "I have talked to [director] Peyton [Reed] about where they’re heading and what they want to focus on,“ she said.

"I’m excited because it’s essentially going to be the origin of the Wasp. Of course, we’re going to see the Wasp for the first time take on the mantle and put on the suit and fly about and do her thing.

"And then following that one, there’s an 'Avengers’ series coming out, it’s a two-parter. The Wasp won’t be in the first part, she’ll be in the second part because they really want to preserve that reveal for 'Ant-Man and the Wasp’ so they can give it its due time.”

'Avengers 4’ is no longer called 'Infinity War - Part 2’ but it will be a follow up that is expected to continue the story of Thanos (Josh Brolin) attempting to harness the ultimate power in the universe.

It makes sense that Lilly won’t appear in 'Infinity War’ to ensure her full debut in the Ant-Man sequel. Whether her co-star Paul Rudd appears as Scott Lang/Ant-Man however, is still up in the air.

'Avengers 4’ is currently tentatively set to be released on 3 May 2019.
