Finn Wolfhard has promised that Ghostbusters: Afterlife, the upcoming reboot-cum-sequel to the hugely popular supernatural comedy, will be incredibly faithful to the original films.

“Older Ghostbusters fans will find it’s a really, really faithful approach to the series,” Wolfhard told NME. “While young people, if not everyone, will find that, first and foremost, Ghostbusters is about family and the relationships that these people have made. It’s also really funny, so I’m really excited for people to see it.”

Ghostbusters: Afterlife sees Carrie Coon’s Phoebe moving to a farm she inherited from her late father in Summerville, Oklahoma. She does so with her two children, Wolfhard and McKenna Grace, after they are evicted from their home. Soon the children start to look into a number of unexplained earthquakes, and discover that their grandfather might have a particularly strong to the mythical Ghostbusters.

The film’s ensemble won’t just be rounded out by Paul Rudd, Tracy Letts and Bokeem Woodbine, but most of the original Ghostbusters cast, including Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Annie Potts, and Sigourney Weaver, will feature, too.

Wolfhard was particularly ecstatic to work with the stars of Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters II, admitting, “When I was really young, my parents were really big fans of the original movies, so I grew up watching them.”

“Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Rick Moranis – all of those were big, big people in our house. So getting to be a part of that legacy now is very flattering.”

Ghostbusters: Afterlife is due to hit cinemas on July 10, 2020. However, the continued impact of COVID-19 means that this release date is almost certainly going to be pushed back at some point in the near future.
