Finn's origin to be explored in 'Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker'
It's easy to just think of John Boyega's Finn in the Star Wars movies as a First Order defector who found himself at the right place at the right time.
But it seems there may be more to his story, and we'll find out in The Rise of Skywalker.
Speaking to Vanity Fair, director J.J. Abrams said: “It is part of the story of this one. And it was alluded to in Episode VII, but there’s a bit more light shed on that in this one.”
And it's not only Finn character that will get more of a deep dive.
Abrams goes on: “I would say that each of the characters get more light shed on their histories. I’m not saying we get full, exhaustive downloads on all of their childhoods and every major step that got them to where they are.

“But there are a lot of questions about Finn’s past, about Poe’s past, obviously Rey and Kylo, and then some of the new characters we meet.”
We know very little about Finn – who doesn't even have a name when we first met him in the full grip of a crisis of conscience in The Force Awakens.
He's introduced by his designation number FN-2187, a trooper serving under Captain Phasma, and is nicknamed Finn by Poe Dameron.

Though we know he was taken from his family as a baby by the First Order to become a stormtrooper, that's about all we know about him – not even his real name – other than he found the massacre at Tuanul on the planet Jakku, home to Rey, too much to take.
The comic books fill in some blanks about his First Order service, but his origins remain a mystery, and currently seem somewhat eclipsed by that of Rey, who will doubtless discover she's not 'nobody', the daughter or junk dealers from Jakku who sold her for 'drinking money', as Kylo Ren has claimed.
We'll find out on December 19.
