It will find William 'Bill' S Preston, Esq (Alex Winter) and Theodore 'Ted' Logan (Keanu Reeves) in the midst of middle age, having not managed to write the song that will unite the universe.
As such, they are visited by a messenger from the future (Kristen Schaal) and warned that if they do not fulfil this destiny, it will prove perilous for all life everywhere.
The film's original writers Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon have penned the script, with Galaxy Quest helmsman Dean Parisot in the director's chair.
Winter and Reeves are joined by Brigette Lundy-Paine as Ted's daughter Billie, and Samara Weaving as Bill's daughter Thea, while William Sadler will reprise his role as Death from Bogus Journey.
Also on the bill are Kid Cudi, Barry star Anthony Carrigan as the film's main villain, Jillian Bell and Kelly Carlin, daughter of the legendary George Carlin, who played Rufus in the first two movies.
It arrives in cinemas on 21 August.
