Nicolas Cage horror movie Longlegs has unveiled its first trailer.

Directed by Oz Perkins, son of Psycho actor Anthony Perkins, the film concerns FBI agent Lee Harker (played by It Follows' Maika Monroe), who is assigned a serial killer case gone cold.

"As the investigation becomes more complicated with occult evidence uncovered, Harker realises a personal link to the killer and must act quickly to prevent another family murder," teases a synopsis.

Cage plays the serial killer, and while the footage — which previews a distinctive style from Perkins — doesn't give us a good look at him, the sound of his unhinged snivelling closes out the trailer.

This comes after Dream Scenario star Cage suggested he might retire from Hollywood after a few more movies.

"It's starting to solidify — I'm starting to cement my plan. I may have three or four more movies left in me," he told Vanity Fair in December.

"I was taking stock of how much time I had left. I thought, 'OK, my dad died at 75, I'm going to be turning 60. If I'm lucky, I have maybe a good 15 years and hopefully more. What do I want to do with those 15 years, using my father as the model?'

"It occurred very clearly to me that I want to spend time with my family."

Longlegs is due out in cinemas on July 12.
