‘Game Of Thrones’ actor blames the media for the poor response to its final season

Game Of Thrones actor Conleth Hill, who played Varys throughout the show’s eight season run, has blamed the media for the poor response to its final episodes.

The eighth and final season of Game Of Thrones provoked a very underwhelming response from fans and critics alike when it aired earlier this summer, and during a panel for the show at Comic-Con on Friday night Hill directed the blame for this reaction firmly at the media.

“We’re very grateful for your fandom over the years and I think this is the reality rather than a media-led hate campaign,” remarked Hill, who was joined at the event by his co-stars Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Maisie Williams, Jacob Anderson, Isaac Hempstead Wright, John Bradley and Liam Cunningham.

Coster-Waldau, who portrayed Jaime Lannister, was a little more diplomatic with his thoughts on the backlash to the show, according to Variety.

“If it comes to an end, it’s gonna p*** you off no matter that because it’s the end. If you hated the ending, if you loved the ending, that’s great. Just don’t call people names.”

The Danish actor also made sure to note that he believed the ending for Jaime, which saw him and his twin sister/lover Cersei crushed by rubble as King’s Landing collapsed around them, was “perfect” and made complete “sense,” as he died in the arms of the woman that he loves.

Hill’s remarks aren’t really supported by the facts, though. While critics were indeed harsh on Game Of Thrones’s’ final season, as it amassed a total of just 58% on Rotten Tomatoes, fans were even crueler, as its audience score is now at the measly sum of 33%.
