Jackson Odell, the star of ABC comedy series The Goldbergs, has died aged 20.

According to TMZ, he was found ‘unresponsive’ at a sober living home in the San Fernando Valley area of Los Angeles.

The County Coroners Office confirmed to Variety that he died on June 8, and while no foul play is suspected, his death is under investigation with an autopsy to take place in the coming days.

“The Odell family has lost our beloved son and brother, Jackson Odell,” read a statement from his family.

“He will always be a shining light and a brilliant, loving and talented soul. He had so much more to share. Our family will always carry that truth forward.

“Our wish is that the rest of the world does as well. We are now going to try to make sense of our immeasurable loss privately.”

Odell had been a child actor from the age of 12, coming to prominence playing Gumbo in the Nickelodeon TV show iCarly, before going on to appear in shows like Arrested Development and Modern Family.

Modern Family star Ariel Winter, who had known him for many years, took to Twitter to pay tribute to him:

He also played Ari in seasons one and two of The Goldbergs, the semi-autobiographical sitcom created by Adam Goldberg.

Odell was also a singer and a songwriter, and had recently penned songs for the soundtrack to 2018 movie Forever Your Girl.

He could often be found uploading videos of his original songs and cover versions to his YouTube channel.
