Henry Cavill and Alan Ritchson's new movie, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, has confirmed its release date.

In an announcement on Instagram yesterday (January 9), Lionsgate revealed that the film will land in US cinemas on April 19. A UK release date has yet to be confirmed.

The World War II epic, which is directed by Guy Ritchie, is inspired by the real events covered in historian Damien Lewis' bestselling 2014 book.

Churchill's Secret Warriors charted Winston Churchill and James Bond author Ian Fleming, as they began a secret combat organisation.

"The clandestine squad's unconventional and entirely 'ungentlemanly' fighting techniques against the Nazis helped changed the course of the war and in part gave birth to what is the modern Black Ops unit," the synopsis reads.

The star-studded cast also includes Crazy Rich Asians star Henry Golding, Stranger Things' Cary Elwes, Eiza González, Alex Pettyfer, Hero Fiennes Tiffin, Babs Olusanmokun, Henrique Zaga and Til Schweiger.

Ritchie co-wrote the script with Paul Tamasy, Eric Johnson and Arash Amel. The director also produced the film, alongside Jerry Bruckheimer, Chad Oman, Ivan Atkinson and John Friedberg.

Production on the blockbuster finished in April last year. Shortly after filming wrapped, Cavill shared how much he enjoyed working with Ritchie.

"That's a wrap! My days on Ungentlemanly Warfare are over. Tis a sad day. I'm going to echo the sentiments of my co-stars and sing the praises of our intrepid crew," he wrote on Instagram.

"It's rare to come across a team so driven, dedicated and committed to the storytelling. That drive and dedication is only intensified by having a leader such as Guy Ritchie. His ability to weave story and create character might be second to none, and he wields it like it were magic."

The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare will be released in US cinemas on April 19.
