How 'Trainspotting' inspired 'Birds Of Prey,' according to Margot Robbie

We’re now just over a month away from the release of Birds Of Prey, which will see Margot Robbie make her hugely anticipated return as Harley Quinn.

So it’s little surprise then that Robbie has been providing more details on the superhero film, and in a recent profile for Variety she recalled the mammoth movie sessions that helped to inspire and influence the making of Birds Of Prey.

Robbie, who is producing as well as starring in Birds Of Prey, partook in these sessions with writer Christina Hodson, who previously scribed Bumblebee, with the pair gathering together to watch various different movies and discuss comics they love.

One of the films that the pair focused on was Danny Boyle’s Trainspotting, with Robbie saying that it made them wonder, “How did they achieve this feeling of beautiful chaos, but within it, everything feels satisfying?”

During the same piece, Hodson recalled how one of their writing sessions lasted for 13 hours, and even broke down how they would collaborate together during this process.

“I was at the keyboard; she was doing story cards. She is remarkable in that sense. I certainly don’t know of any other actors like her who would do that.”

Meanwhile Robbie also explained how Birds Of Prey will be different to Joker, Todd Phillips and Joaquin Phoenix’s hugely successful spin-off of the legendary Batman villain, insisting that their film is “heightened” as opposed to their “grounded” effort.
