Yahoo Movies Industry body Cinema First announces 450 films UK cinemas will be able to reopen with
Cinema First, the cross-industry body that works to promote UK cinema-going, has announced a slate of 450 films that will be used to entice customers back when cinemas reopen in July.
From all time greats such as Star Wars: Episode V - Empire Strikes Back, Vertigo and The Wizard of Oz, to modern classics like The Dark Knight, Deadpool, and Inception, to recent award-winners Parasite, 1917, and Jojo Rabbit, the roster has something for all tastes.
The list also includes a wealth of 2020 films whose theatrical runs were cut short when cinemas were closed in March including Pixar’s Onward, Sonic The Hedgehog, Bloodshot and Military Wives, plus some films which will be made available to cinemas for the first time including Trolls World Tour, Vivarium and The Assistant.

All UK cinemas have been closed since mid-March due to the coronavirus pandemic, and Cineworld and Picturehouse have announced an intention to reopen on 10 July. Vue and Showcase say they’re working towards reopening on 4 July, while Odeon’s date remains “sometime in July”.
Out on 24 July, Disney’s Mulan is still slated to be the first big blockbuster in cinemas when they’re back up and running, closely followed by Christopher Nolan’s Tenet on 31 July. The 450 films (listed below) will be available for cinemas to fill the schedules, however you will need to check local listings to see what your local cinema will show.
The amassed filmed content being made available to cinemas has been collated by the Film Distributors’ Association in a document entitled Relaunching Cinema: Content for Recovery, and is designed to fill the scheduling gap between 10 July and Mulan. The titles are presented from many of the UK’s leading distribution companies, with the aim of aiding film programmers and cinema operators to choose the widest possible mix of content that will “entice, engage and exhilarate cinemagoing audiences”.

Commenting on the document, Andy Leyshon, Chief Executive of the Film Distributors’ Association said: “This amazing collection of content represents all that’s great about cinema and should enthral and delight film-lovers the length and breadth of the land. Cinemagoing holds such a vital role in society, able to entertain and educate in equal measure, and returning audiences will be able to once again experience the magic of film in its truest form.”
While a final decision on when cinemas can reopen is still awaited from Government, it is currently anticipated that this will be from early July in England, with reopening dates still to be confirmed in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
