Insidious Chapter 4 Is Filming Now

Lin Shaye’s spirit medium Elise Rainier is taking us back to The Further once again.

Production is underway on ‘Insidious Chapter 4,’ the latest in the ghostly horror series created by screenwriter and Specs actor Leigh Whannell.

Whannell has written every instalment in the series to date, whilst his old friend and frequent collaborator James Wan directed the 2010 original and its 2013 follow-up. (The writer-director duo made their Hollywood breakthrough together on 2004 horror hit ‘Saw.’)

Whannell made his directorial debut on 2015’s ‘Insidious Chapter 3,’ but this time around he’s handed the reins to Adam Robitel (‘The Taking’).

Nothing is known about the plot of ‘Insidious Chapter 4,’ but four new actors have been announced: Bruce Davison (‘X-Men,’ ‘The Lords of Salem’), Spencer Locke (‘Resident Evil’ 3&4), Kirk Acevedo (‘Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’) and Caitlin Gerard (‘The Social Network,’ ‘Magic Mike’).

And of course, series regular Lin Shaye will reprise her central role as Elise, who has become the main figurehead of the series after the first two films centred on Rose Byrne and Patrick Wilson’s troubled couple.

It seems feasible that ‘Chapter 4’ will see another family run into some supernatural difficulties, and call on Elise for help – but who knows, Whannell and co might surprise us this time.

Produced by horror hit-makers Blumhouse, the ‘Insidious’ series has taken almost $372 million at the global box office so far; a significant profit, given none of the films cost more than $10 million to make.

‘Insidious Chapter 4’ is due to hit cinemas in October 2017 (no UK release date confirmed at present).
