Proving once again that he’s a very fine human being indeed, ‘Star Wars’ star John Boyega visited the seriously ill children being looked after at the Demelza Hospice in Eltham, south east London, this week.

The 24-year-old actor, who hails from nearby Peckham, spent the afternoon with kids, staff and parents visiting the centre, many dressed up in their best ‘Star Wars’ gear.

There were light sabers all over the place, and he even helped one tiny Stormtrooper out with a bowling lesson.

“I’d heard about the great work of Demelza so couldn’t wait to visit and help make some dreams come true,” he told the News Shopper.

“I was blown away by the children and the nurses who do such a fantastic job of caring for them.”

Abigail Smith, from Sidcup, whose son Nicholas has the severe muscle-wasting disease Duchenne muscular dystrophy, said: “This was our first visit to Demelza so I didn’t know what to expect but it’s been wonderful.

“Finn is Nicholas’ favourite character in the new Star Wars film and you could see just how happy he was to meet him.”

Care coordinator Fiona Ashmore added: “We’re so grateful to John for taking time out of his busy schedule to visit Demelza.

“He interacted beautifully with the children and families, playing games, cracking jokes and most importantly raising so many smiles.”

Boyega also visited kids at the Royal London Hospital in March.
