John Krasinski makes his debut as the new Jack Ryan for Amazon TV series
Fresh from his celebrated directorial breakthrough A Quiet Place, John Krasinski is about to take his first bow as the new Jack Ryan.
The first trailer for forthcoming Amazon TV series Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan has landed, and there’s nothing much quiet about it.
It finds Krasinski taking on the role of Ryan, a CIA analyst usually more comfortable with desk-based tasks who finds himself thrust into active service to foil a terrorist plot.
As he tracks the movements of a terrorist cell, he’s overseen by his handler, The Wire’s Wendell Pierce.
It appears to be a slightly different angle on the character than seen previously on screen.
Ryan was famously played by Alec Baldwin in The Hunt for Red October, and then by Harrison Ford in Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger.
Latterly, Ben Affleck took on the role in The Sum of All Fears in 2002, and most recently Chris Pine played him in Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, directed by Kenneth Branagh in 2014.
The late Tom Clancy put Ryan at the centre of eight novels from Patriot Games, first published in 1987, to Executive Orders, published in 1996.
Three more Jack Ryan novels were published posthumously, co-penned by Mark Greaney.
Also starring Abbie Cornish, Peter Fonda and Timothy Hutton, the series airs on Amazon from August 31.
