'Joker' director Todd Phillips shuts down sequel talk
Joker hasn’t even been released in cinemas yet but there is already talk of a sequel.
However, the film’s director Todd Phillips is not a fan of this talk.
“We have no plan for a sequel," IGN reports he said after a press screening in Los Angeles.
it had been teased that Phillips would be up for making a second solo movie around the character during an interview with Total Film.
“One thing I will tell you: I would do anything with Joaquin, any day of the week,” he said when asked about the possibility of a sequel.
“There’s nobody like him. If he was willing to do it, and if people show up to this movie, and Warners came to us and said, ‘You know what? If you guys could think of something…’ Well, I have a feeling that he and I could think of something pretty cool.”

However, now Phillips says his quote was taken out of context.
"The quote was, 'I will do anything Joaquin wants to do.' And I would,” the filmmaker said.
“But the movie's not set up to [have] a sequel. We always pitched it as one movie, and that's it."
Joker won the prestigious Golden Lion award at Venice, which is seen to be an indicator for Oscar success (previous winners include The Shape Of Water and Roma).

However, its unlikely Phoenix’s Clown Prince will make an appearance in Matt Reeves’ The Batman.
When asked if this Joker will face-off against Robert Pattinson’s Batman, Phillips told Variety: “No, definitely not.”
Joker is in UK cinemas on October 4.
