Kaya Scodelario's horror hit to get an unexpected sequel

Kaya Scodelario's alligator horror Crawl is set to get a sequel from director Alexandre Aja.

Aja is returning in the director's chair after helming the original Crawl movie, released in 2019, and will be also producing alongside Craig Flores and Evil Dead creator Sam Raimi, who backed the first film (via The Hollywood Reporter).

Set to begin filming this autumn in Europe, Crawl 2 is being written by Andrew Deutschman and Jason Pagan, who penned horror Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension and time-travel movie Project Almanac.

The first Crawl film opened to good numbers and saw Scodelario and Barry Pepper play a daughter and father duo trapped in a Florida home and hunted by a gator during a Category 5 hurricane.

There is bad news for Scodelario fans as she's not expected to star in Crawl 2. The sequel is said to be featuring a new story with new characters, with the action moving from Florida to the urban dangers of New York City.

Recently seen in Netflix's The Gentlemen, Scodelario will appear in Alex Winter's dark comedy Adulthood, also starring Winter, Booksmart's Billie Lourd, Frozen's Josh Gad and Barry's Anthony Carrigan.

"Adulthood is about a sister and brother, Megan and Noah, who are barely hanging on in present-day America, like all of us," the official synopsis reads.

"When they discover a dead body, long buried in their parents' basement, the siblings are pulled back to the hometown they ran away from and into a rabbit hole of crime and murder."

Crawl 2 doesn't have a release date yet. The Gentlemen is available to stream on Netflix.
