Kristen Stewart has joined the cast of road-trip comedy Sacramento alongside This Is Us actor Michael Angarano, Michael Cera and Maya Erskine.

Directed by Angarano, the movie follows Rickey (Angarano) and his longtime friend Glenn (Cera) as they take an impromptu road trip from Los Angeles to Sacramento. Stewart will play Glenn's wife, Rosie, and Erskine will play Rickey’s wife, Tallie.

Rickey is free-spirited while Glenn is settled in domesticity and during the trip, their past raises questions about their future.

Angarano, who played the young Nicky Pearson in This Is Us, co-wrote the script with Chris Smith.

"We feel grateful and very excited to make a movie like Sacramento. Chris Smith and I started writing this film years ago, after a pilot of ours didn't get picked up," Angarano told Deadline.

"We're honoured to be working with this wildly talented cast and crew led by Stephen [Braun] at Bee-Hive who is not only a great partner, but a true collaborator. It's already been quite a journey but we're finally ready to go make a movie."

Sacramento will also feature Rosalind Chao, former wrestler AJ Mendez and Iman Karram. Mendez and Karram will play friends and ex-fighters who teach Rickey and Glenn about their friendship.

Stewart, who received an Oscar nomination for her role as Princess Diana in Spencer, stars in the upcoming romantic thriller Love Lies Bleeding and is currently working on Sontag, a biopic about Susan Sontag.

Angarano will appear in Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer later this year. Cera is currently starring in Amy Schumer's Life & Beth on Hulu, and will also appear in Barbie this summer as part of an all-star cast.

Meanwhile, Erskine is filming a Mr and Mrs Smith reboot, starring opposite Donald Glover.
