Madonna has surprised her fans by performing a stand-up comedy show in New York.

Patrons at a New York comedy club were stunned to realise the act on stage in front of them was none other than pop legend Madonna.

Comedian Amy Schumer 43, accompanied Madonna, 66, along to the club, where they posed for a photo next to a sign reading, "This table is reserved for Comedy Cellar comedians only".

However, an onlooker later claimed the audience was underwhelmed by the singer's comedy stylings during her 30-minute set.

"She did well enough, but the audience was so stunned it was Madonna that it took them the entire set to warm up to her," the source reportedly told The Sun.

"She didn't do as well as you'd think she would, she got laughs every time she dropped an F-bomb, because just hearing Madonna curse is funny."

Madonna was more successful when she threw in some political content, the source said.

"She also nailed a joke about how with all of these Trump deportations she's not going to have any staff left, which got some laughs," the source added, "but really everyone was just so shocked she was there."
