Martin Kemp was emotional as he thanked James Haskell for giving his son Roman a hug in the I’m A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! jungle.

Rugby player Haskell and DJ Roman were both contestants on this year‘s series of the ITV show. Roman is still living in the jungle camp Down Under but Haskell was booted out earlier this week.

Spandau Ballet’s Martin had a chat with Haskell on Roman’s Capital Breakfast show, and told him his “heart just went out” when the sports star comforted his boy during a low moment in camp.

The moment in question came when the hungry group lost out on a tasty treat.

Roman was crestfallen about losing the snack, and was given a cuddle by Haskell.

Martin told him: “There was one moment I really have to thank you for, as a father.

“When I saw Roman curled up on your lap and you gave him a hug.

“My heart just went out and I thought, James thank you so much for doing that.”

Sounding choked up, the former pop star went on: “I just thought, it would have been something that I wanted to do.

“You know, he’s my kid, and I thought, someone has got to give him some love.

“And when James did it I thought, thank you so much for that.”

Martin has been a vocal supporter of his son since the reality TV show started last month, praising him for the way he copes with the stomach-churning Bushtucker trials and urging other people to back him.

He has also shared his pride, tweeting at the start of the series: “So proud of my boy @romankemp…

“Shirliekemp tearing up here!!!”

I’m A Celebrity continues on ITV.
