Michael Shannon Reveals New Batman V Superman Details

It looks as though Michael Shannon is at it again – this time, revealing that General Zod appears in a ghost-like form in ‘Batman V Superman’. But should we believe him?

During an interview on Larry King Now (via comicbook.com), the 41-year-old Superman villain offered up some more details about his role in ‘Batman V Superman’.

“It’s the same thing like in the first one with Jor-El,” he said. “Russell Crowe’s character is kind of like a ghost… so I guess I’m a ghost, kind of.”

After the destruction of Krypton at the beginning of ‘Man of Steel’, Russel Crowe’s Jor-El appeared in holographic form – projected by Kryptonian technology in what would become Superman’s very own Fortress of Solitude.

But will General Zod really appear in the same way?

It certainly sounds a lot more plausible than Michael Shannon’s earlier comments – that Zod would appear with flippers for hands. But after nearly breaking the internet with that rather odd confession (as well as appearing in a body bag in the recent official trailer), I can’t help wondering whether his new explanation is merely backtracking.

Shannon’s excuse? His earlier comments were apparently a red herring…

“The pressure that I’m under in this situation sometimes leads me to say silly things like Zod has flippers,” he explained. “It was a false… red herring, as it were.”

The thing is, clearly Michael Shannon is lying about something. But quite which version of events is actually true, well… that remains to be seen. A ghostly appearance for General Zod may seem far more likely, but the thought of General Zod evolving into something bigger and badder would make for a great showdown.

But will Batman be involved with Zod at all?

There have been rumours that Lex Luthor obtains Zod’s body in the aftermath of ‘Man of Steel’… and even that Bruce Wayne may be somehow involved. Asked whether he would be playing Zod in ‘Batman V Superman’ he simply replied: “Yeah.”

But most interestingly, it seems he doesn’t share an awful lot of screen time with Ben Affleck… if any at all.

“I did not cross paths with Batman, no.”

Of course, this could mean any number of things. Could General Zod appear as a figment of Superman’s imagination – haunting his dreams in the aftermath of ‘Man of Steel’? Will he be the embodiment of Supeman’s conscience?

For now, we’ll have to wait and see.

Batman V Superman’ heads to cinemas on 25 March 2016.
