Ariana Grande's The Boy Is Mine cover praised by Monica
Monica has talked up Ariana Grande's The Boy Is Mine cover.
The R&B singer described the new version of her and Brandy's 1999 global hit as "nothing short of a blessing", especially as it enabled her to reconnect with her former collaborator for the first time in years.
"It was nothing short of a blessing for Brandy and I not only to reconnect, but to reconnect and do something as special as this innovative version of 'The Boy Is Mine,'" Monica, 44, told People Magazine.
"She and I had not seen each other for many years, so it gave us the opportunity to talk not just about the song, but life as a whole."
She added the fresh take on a classic song had given it new life.
"I love the fact that she did not try to remake it in the form that both Brandy and I made it in, but she created something that's her own and she used nostalgic moments from the record," Monica explained.
"That's what made it such a no-brainer for me because it felt good."
Ariana's cover version is now in the running to win Best Pop Duo/Group Performance at the 2025 Grammy Awards.
