Mortal Kombat has finally revealed when the first trailer for the eagerly-anticipated action movie will be released.

The film, which is set to reach US cinemas and HBO Max on April 16, also unveiled a batch of new motion posters to help announce the teaser's arrival.

Taking to Twitter on Wednesday (February 17), it shared super cool glimpses at Josh Lawson's Kano, Sisi Stringer as Mileena, Joe Taslim's Sub-Zero, Max Huang's Kung Lao and Lewis Tan's Cole Young.

It also stated that the new trailer will drop at 9pm PST on Thursday (February 18), which is around 5pm in the UK.

While their characters didn't feature in the latest promo drop, Mortal Kombat is also set to star Home and Away's Jessica McNamee, Supergirl's Mehcad Brooks and Power Rangers' Ludi Lin, as Sonya Blade, Jaxx and Liu Kang respectively.

Based on the video game series of the same name, the outing follows Cole, an MMA fighter who "seeks out Earth's greatest champions in order to stand against the enemies of Outworld in a high stakes battle for the universe".

"We needed it to be really elemental and really brutal. It's not a shiny film… I wanted the dirt and the grime to come through," director Simon McQuoid previously told Entertainment Weekly, so it seems fair to assume that we can expect to see some bloodshed in the upcoming clip.

Mortal Kombat will be released in US theatres on April 16, 2021, and will also stream on HBO Max as part of the studio's controversial release plan for this year. A UK release date has not been revealed yet.
