Yahoo Movies Paul Mescal wants to team up with Ayo Edebiri for a rom-com
Normal People star Paul Mescal has revealed his hopes for a new acting challenge.
While doing press for his latest film, All of Us Strangers, the Oscar nominee told Awards Watch that his acting dream would be to star in a rom-com with The Bear's Ayo Edebiri.
"Comedy scares me deeply because I think I saw Bottoms recently and I was in awe of how they do that," he said of the prospect of leaning into a comedic role.

"That's one of those I leave the cinema and I'm incredibly jealous and brightened of everybody's talents involved with that film. But I think in the next five years I'm going to set myself a challenge to do maybe a rom-com with Ayo [Edebiri] or something like that would be cool."
As well as her award-winning role as chef Sydney Adamu in hit FX series, Edebiri is known for her comedic role in the 2023 teen satire and animated coming-of-age sitcom, Big Mouth, which was recently on Mescal's watchlist.
Ahead of his future plans, Mescal has been busy on a number of projects. He recently starred alongside Saoirse Ronan in Prime Video's sci-fi blockbuster Foe, and will soon be leading the cast of the highly anticipated Gladiator 2.

Also featuring the likes of Pedro Pascal, Denzel Washington, Joseph Quinn, Connie Nielsen and Matt Lucas, Ridley Scott's long-awaited sequel will see Mescal play Lucius — the son of Lucilla and nephew of Commodus.
The actor recently revealed how he feels to be starring in the epic, saying: "I can't tell you how stressed I am talking about that film in particular, because it's definitely the biggest one I've done. I feel really excited, but it's difficult to get away from the legacy of the [first] film a bit."
He continued: "I think it's really well written and it pays homage to the first one, but it's very much something that I think I can step into and make comfortably my own."
Foe will be released on Prime Video on January 5. Gladiator 2 doesn't have a release date yet.
