Natalie Portman Admits She Is Done With Marvel
Natalie Portman has admitted that her time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Jane Foster has, for now at least, come to an end.
During her recent interview with The Wall Street Journal Portman was asked for an update on her potential future involvement with Marvel, to which she responded, “As far as I know I’m done.”
“I mean I don’t know if maybe one day they’ll ask for an ‘Avengers 7’ or whatever I have no idea. But, um, but as far as I know I’m done.”
But while Portman doesn’t seem to be overly upset at her departure from MCU she made sure to admit that she’d had a splendid time working on these films, adding, “That was all a great thing to be a part of.”
It’s long been suspected that we wouldn’t see Portman within the hallowed walls of the Marvel Universe any time soon, especially after it was confirmed that she wouldn’t feature in ‘Thor: Ragnarok’, where she’s been replaced by Tessa Thompson and Cate Blanchett.
Portman actually only appeared in two Marvel films, turning up as Jane Foster in 2011’s ‘Thor’ and 2013’s ‘Thor: The Dark World’, while avoiding the likes of ‘The Avengers’ and ‘Avengers: Age Of Ultron’.
Portman played an integral role in the success of Marvel, as her inclusion in ‘Thor’ was a big reason for its box office success. Before ‘Thor’, Chris Hemsworth wasn’t a big name, while Portman was coming off her Oscar-winning success in ‘Black Swan’, which grossed $329.4 million back in 2010.
‘Thor’ managed to eclipse that amount, taking in $449.3 million, and thus continued Marvel’s success through Phase One that culminated in ‘The Avengers’ and continues a pace to this day.
