New Star Wars: Rogue One Photos Unveiled
New ‘Star Wars: Rogue One’ photos have appeared online.
It looks as though ‘Star Wars: Rogue One’ is finally being thrust into the spotlight… Entertainment Weekly has unveiled a horde of new info about the movie (including most of the cast’s character names). Now they’ve given us an impressive glimpse of the first ‘Star Wars’ spin-off in these all-new photos.
And that means Stormtroopers by the dozen.

Accompanying these rather cool images are some tantalising ‘Star Wars: Rogue One’ details, which offer up a small glimpse of what we can expect.
It sounds as though director Gareth Edwards wasn’t kidding about making a war movie.
Rogue One Deathtroopers
Although we’ve already seen a close-up of the Deathtrooper helmet, this our first time seeing them storming a beach together as a squad. And let’s face it – they’re pretty menacing chaps.
“This shot [is] of a squad of Deathtroopers, who are tasked with hunting down and destroying the fragmented Rebel uprising.”
If these troopers are anything to go by, the Rebels should be running scared. But it looks as though it’ll take more than a shiny, black uniform to get Felicity Jones to back down…
Another shot of Jyn Erso
Again, we’ve seen Jyn countless times before – especially in the recent ‘Rogue One’ trailer. Suited up in an Imperial outfit, it’s clear that the rebel agent is undercover… but is she aboard the Death Star itself?
“Here we see her in disguise, armed for conflict inside an Imperial corridor. Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy says Jyn starts as an outlaw and “becomes a kind of Joan of Arc in the story’.”
It’s an interesting choice of words – but we can certainly see Jyn leading her own army.
Director Orson Krennic
“He understands the system and he knows how things work, but he also is not above trying to bend it to get what he needs or what he thinks he wants,” said Kiri Hart – Lucasfilm’s head of story development.”
Apparently, Krennic is meant to show us another side to the Empire. Instead of the cool, calm and collected Imperial officers we’ve seen before, Director Krennic is far less predictable.
“Tarkin is the model for these really cool, icy types, you know?” said Hart. “Krennic runs a little hotter than that, so that’s kind of fun and it’s a little bit different… He is unpredictable and volatile.”
Chirrut and Baze relax on the beach
Introducing two new characters – Chirrut Imwe and Baze Malbus.
Chirrut Imwe (played by Donnie Yen) is described as “a blind warrior monk who is not a Jedi but follows the path of the Force.” Meanwhile, Baze Malbus (Jiang Wen) is Chirrut’s “Force-doubting rough-and-tumble protector.”
“They’re inspired, again, by what inspired George in The Hidden Fortress,” said Lucasfilm president, Kathleen Kennedy. “You could even say to some extent it’s, you know, R2 and C-3PO, a little bit of that.”
And in this image, we find them chilling out on the beach… presumably after having slain that poor Stormtrooper that’s slumped over in the background.
Tropical Stormtroopers?
It’s another weird planet! That’s right – ‘Star Wars: Rogue One’ will feature a (currently) un-named planet which sticks to the time-honoured tradition of featuring a single eco-system. This time, the seaside-esque planet will feature a key battle… as well as that weird, grey sky.
“There’s this sort of South Pacific, tropical paradise planet that subconsciously leads into some of the imagery associated with World War II,” said director Gareth Edwards. “We went to lots of different places around the world, and one of them was the Maldives. When you’re shooting Stormtroopers in paradise, you have the best job in the world, you know? You can’t really deny it at that point.”
This weird Stormtrooper Doll
Look very closely – yup, that Deathrooper is holding a toy Stormtrooper.
It’s one of the weirder new ‘Star Wars: Rogue One’ images… and it looks as though it’s going without explanation for now.
“The filmmakers didn’t want to explain exactly what’s happening here, but they confirm: yes, that’s a Stormtrooper doll, a galactic version of a toy soldier. And it will have special significance in the story.”
Quite what this means remains to be seen.
Maybe he just collects ‘Star Wars’ memorabilia…
