New 'Venom' trailer shows Tom Hardy and Riz Ahmed's Riot do battle

The latest Venom trailer has arrived online and it not only gives viewers more of Eddie Brock’s parasitic alter-ego but also the other symbiotes he will be up against.

Tom Hardy plays Eddie Brock, a journalist investigating a scandal at the Life Foundation run by Riz Ahmed’s Carlton Drake who has been experimenting on vulnerable human guinea pigs with an alien organism.

Eddie ends up becoming a host to a symbiote, thus becoming Venom, but so does a few other test subjects including Carlton, who becomes Riot.

Riot has been described as a “body-hopper” by director Reuben Fleischer which means the alien parasite will likely jump a few physical bodies before taking control of Drake.

The new trailer also shows Michelle Lee as Donna Diego, another human who ends up being paired with symbiote to become Strike Agent Four, who has the ability to throw darts from every part of her body.

Some people are loving the new trailer:

Some didn’t really think much of it:

And others are slightly concerned about the dialogue:

Hardy is no stranger to playing dual roles – he played both the Kray twins in the biopic Legend – but in Venom he has compared the characters to Ren & Stimpy.

They have different sounds,” the British actor told EW. I always saw Venom as sounding like a James Brown lounge lizard, and Eddie Brock is kind of…” — in a blue collar American accent — “I don’t know, an everyday kind of guy. But he’s inherited this massive ego, this beast.”

The film also stars Michelle Williams, Jenny Slate, and Woody Harrelson.

Venom is in cinemas from 5 October
