Patrick Stewart Confirms Professor X For Wolverine 3

It looks as though Professor X will appear in the upcoming ‘Wolverine’ solo film… but he might be a lot more involved in the plot than we thought.

During an interview with Collider, the original ‘X-Men’ star, Sir Patrick Stewart, revealed that Charles Xavier will play an important role in the upcoming ‘Wolverine’ sequel.

“There is a project in development,” he said. “I understand that Professor Xavier will be making more than an appearance, however, and that intrigues me.”

Of course, with Sir Patrick Stewart reportedly stepping away from ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’, it remains unclear whether we’ll see Michael Fassbender in the role for ‘Wolverine 3’. But how will Professor X be involved?

There are already rumours that the upcoming ‘Wolverine’ movie will be based on the hugely popular ‘Old Man Logan’ series – depicting Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine as an older man. It would certainly make an interesting conclusion to the series – with this set to be Jackman’s final ‘X-Men’ movie. But is there any truth to it?

Although there’s been no official confirmation, Sir Patrick Stewart hints that he’s looking forward to seeing Jackman’s transformation into Old Man Logan.

“The idea of an old Wolverine – I’m really looking forward to Hugh Jackman getting old. You know, damn him. He looks so great! So I’m hoping to see him covered in prosthetics, you know? And then he’ll make me look better if that’s the case.”

Of course, Stewart’s hint that it will be ‘more than an appearance’ for Professor X seems to suggest more than a mere cameo. And this could mean that Wolverine gets a more familiar travel companion than the one in the comic books…

Throughout ‘Old Man Logan’, the iconic mutant is accompanied by Marvel’s Hawkeye… but since 20th Century Fox doesn’t own the rights to this character, they’re likely going to need a replacement.

Could this be where Professor X comes in? For now, we’ll have to wait and see. But it sounds as though ‘Wolverine 3’ is going to be an excellent way to end Jackman’s run as Wolverine.

The upcoming ‘Wolverine’ sequel heads to cinemas on 3 March 2017.
