Phoebe Dynevor thought she was going to be arrested filming a shoplifting scene in New York for her new movie Inheritance.

In the espionage thriller, the Bridgerton actress plays a young woman who is drawn into an international conspiracy after discovering her absent father, played by Rhys Ifans, is a spy.

The movie was filmed entirely on iPhones around the world and shot guerrilla-style, meaning the camera genuinely followed Dynevor as she shoplifted a bottle of tequila from a shop in New York City's Times Square and drank it on a street corner.

"I thought I was going to be arrested in New York, with the bottle," the British actress told Porter magazine. "There was no camera setup, there was no lighting. It was literally, like, 'OK, we're filming, go, run, go steal those sunglasses.' It was all so real. I felt so alive the whole time."

Dynevor noted that there wasn't any film fakery for an aeroplane sequence either - they shot scenes in a real airport and on a real operational plane with genuine passengers boarding around them.

Inheritance, which will be released in the U.S. on 24 January, is one of many films Dynevor has in the pipeline. She has already completed work on the thrillers Beneath the Storm, Anniversary and Famous, starring Zac Efron.

Considering what she'd like to film next, the 29-year-old named romantic comedies and action as her top genres.

"When I was growing up, I feel like everything I watched as a teenager was romance and romcoms and I think we've gone through a drought of that, in a way," she said, before adding that she would "love" to work on a film that required a safety harness and a high kick.

Although she has now moved to Los Angeles, Dynevor also wants to keep working in the British film industry, noting that "it's been such an important part of my life and I always want to keep working there".
